Bemis, Tracy R. (27 August 1911 - 7 July 1996)

Tracy R. Bemis, 84, of Humbird, died on Sunday, July 7, 1996, at Saint Joseph’s Hospice Unit, Marshfield.

She was born Aug. 27, 1911, in Mentor Township, Clark County, to Anton and Rosa (Bumgartner) Mayer. She graduated from Humbird High School and married Orin P. Bemis on Nov. 25, 1935, in Fairview. They farmed in Mentor Township for many years and in 1969, they moved into Humbird. Her husband died on Jan. 15, 1982 (1983, as recorded in the Jan. 19, 1983 issue of the Banner Journal.)

She was a lifetime member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church and was an active member of Saint Anne’s Altar Society. She enjoyed cooking and playing cards, visiting, and gardening, and drove her car until three weeks prior to her death.

Survivors include her son, Harlan (Iris) Bemis of Humbird; two grandchildren, Michael of Humbird, and Jeffery of Eau Claire; and two great-grandchildren, Trenton and Michaela.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orin; four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services for Tracy R. Bemis were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 1996, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, rural Humbird. The Rev. David Ziegelmaier officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Friends called on Tuesday evening at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, where a parish rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m.

Casketbearers were: Norman Mayer, LaVerne Mayer, Donald Mayer, Bob Mayer, Rick Dimmitt and Bill Dimmitt.
