Emmerson, Anna L. (29 DEC 1863 - 30 APR 1949)

Former Resident Passes Away

Mrs. Anna L. Emmerson, 85, of 2 Frederick Av, died at her home Sunday evening at 10:07. She had been ill two months.

Mrs. Emerson was a member of the Ladies Guild and the Womans Work Society of the Presbyterian Church. She was born in Menasha, Dec. 29, 1863 and lived for a time in Battle Creek, Mich. While there she was married on Jan. 20, 1920 to James W. Emmerson. In 1924 they moved to Oshkosh where they have since resided.

She is survived by her husband, three sisters and several neices [sic] and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in Oshkosh and she was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery, Neenah.

--Oshkosh Northwestern, Apr. 24, 1949.

Mrs. Emmerson will be remembered by many of the older people of Spencer as Mrs. Gil Vandercook, who came to Spencer as a bride in 1884 when Messers Gil and Ed Vandercook purchased the Spencer Tribune from Mr. Thomas W. Norton who in turn purchased the Marshfield Times and moved to that city.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Vandercook, who died in infancy. Their home in Spencer was the house in which Mrs. Effie Ringer lives, and it was on the site of the Mr. and Mrs. George Cool home.

Mr. and Mrs. Emmerson visited Spencer last at the time of the Homecoming in 1936 and visited with many of her old friends.
