Marty, Cheryl Jean (Marriage - 3 May 1969)
Miss Cheryl Jean Marty,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marty of Granton, and Jack Henze Downer, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Downer of Neillsville, exchanged wedding vows at 2 p.m.
Saturday, May 3, in Granton United Methodist Church. The Rev. William Dushek,
pastor of the Neillsville-Granton United Methodist churches, performed the
double ring ceremony, in the presence of 225 guests.
The bride, given in
marriage by her father, was attired in a floor-length gown, styled with a
scalloped Sabrina neckline above a fitted bodice of Chantilly lace. The full
skirt of silk organza with lace was completed by a lace Watteau train attached
at the shoulders. Her bouffant illusion veil was secured to a petal cluster of
organza with pearl and crystal trim. She carried a cascade bouquet of lavender
orchids, white roses and stephanotis entwined with ivy.
The bride chose
her sister, Mrs. Donald Hillert of Mondovi, as her matron-of-honor. She wore a
full length gown of yellow nylon over yellow organza, accented with a green tie
sash at the empire waist. The wrist-length sleeves were of ruffled lace.
Bridesmaids were Miss Sandra Marty, sister of the bride, of Granton, Miss
Georgianna Barth and Miss Sharon Kurth, both of Milwaukee. Their gowns were
fashioned the same as that of the matron-of-honor, but were in orchid. All
carried colonial bouquets of orchids, white daisies and yellow carnations,
accented with sprengeri.
Bestman was Wayne Kuhl of Granton. Keith Marg of
Neillsville, Donald Marty, brother of the bride, and Thomas Pernsteiner, both of
Granton, were the groomsmen. Ushers were Darrel Marty, brother of the bride, of
Port Edwards, and Donald Hillert of Mondovi.
Wedding music was furnished
by Keith Gardner and Miss Elsie Garbisch sang, “O Perfect Love” and “The Wedding
Prayer.”
Mrs. Downer is a 1967 graduate of Granton High School, and is
employed as a dental assistant in Highland Park. Mr. Downer graduated from the
Granton High School in 1962 and is presently attending Milwaukee Business
College.
After returning from a wedding trip through Florida the couple
will reside at 2904 W. Wells, Milwaukee.
