Humbird (8 May1969)
Word has been received that Grandma Bemis had
suffered a stroke last week. Her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. William
Dimmitt of Norfolk, Va., were expected here Monday.
Mrs. Laverne Kaufman
and Mrs. Freida Zerbel were in Eau Claire Sunday to attend a biennial clinic to
detect persons with glaucoma. This clinic is free and was held at both Luther
and Sacred Heart hospitals. Persons learn immediately if they require treatment
for the disease. It is sponsored by the city-county health department and the
Tri- county Medical Society. Both ladies are happy that they do not have
glaucoma.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jackson and Marylyn of Greenwood visited
Sunday at the home of her mother, Mrs. Christine Hanson.
Mr. and Mrs.
Howell Stuve of Owen and daughter, Mrs. Henry (Dorothy) Kerslevy of rural Loyal,
called Monday at the Raymond Stuve home.
Mrs. Norman Nibbe of Hobart,
Ind., who is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Cullen Dignin, spent a weekend at
the Bob Fitzmaurice home in Augusta.
A pre-nuptial shower was held Sunday
evening in St. John’s United Church in honor of Miss Dorothy Breining of Taylor
and Roy hefty. The hostesses served a lunch.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pierce of
Neillsville were supper guests Sunday of his sister, Mrs. Elgie Hardwick, and
then called at the Arnold Matti home.
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Senske and
boys of St. Paul were weekend guests at the Archie Kirby home.
Mrs. Elmer
Duerkop and Mrs. Emma Gerber spent Friday in La Crosse, where they attended a
meeting of people interested in help for the deaf. They also called at the
Ronald Johnson home. Jim Duerkop accompanied them home for the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Baily of Rockford, Ill. visited friends here and in Black
River Falls during the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Matti spent Sunday
afternoon at the Clare Enerson home in North Branch.
Mr. and Mrs. John
Aebersold of Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Emma Gerber were supper guests Saturday at
the Roger Janke home near Alma Center and then spent the evening at the William
Aebersold home to help him celebrate his birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Kurt
Schlei of Green Bay came Saturday afternoon to spend the weekend at the Henry
Laffe home. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Clouse of Loyal came for supper and the evening.
Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Laffe and Mr. and Mrs. Schlei drove to Loyal to have dinner
with Mr. and Mrs. Clouse.
Mr. and Mrs. John Kleckner and family of
Stevens Point were guests of her mother, Mrs. Freida Zerbel, last Sunday. Mrs.
Zerbel accompanied them home to stay for a short visit.
