Merlin Kroll (Locked out of barbershop - 1969)
No Trick at all: You
have heard of someone locking himself out of his house, or out of his car? Well,
Merlyn Kroll knows how it feels to be locked out of the barber shop. It was
really quite simple. Because of a pants pocket full of change and some other
keys, he put the shop key in his uniform. Came time for him to go home for
dinner; he removed his smock, hung it up neatly (with the keys in it), left the
establishment in the able hands of his father-in-law, Milo Mabie, and bicycled
home. When he returned, he found that Milo had finished with his duties and had
locked up and gone home. Unperturbed, seemingly, he hopped on his trusty bike,
and in a few minutes was back with a key and in the shop busily snipping away.
What did father-in-law say? We don’t know, but we wager it was something
appropriate. -- A.M.
