Mrs. Bartol Laid To Rest

Mrs. Jessie Norton Bartol passed away suddenly at her home in Marinette Tuesday, October 4th, 1949 suffering a severe heart attack at noon. She had just returned to her home about three weeks ago after a 10 day visit with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Holterman and family.

She had been ailing for the past few years but was apparently as well as usual.

Mrs. Bartol was born Jessie Edith Norton and was the older of two daughters, of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Norton, who lived in Spencer, altho Jessie was born at the Norton farm in the Town of Byron, Fond du Lac County, Feb. 20, 1876.

When she was 9, Mr. Norton sold the Spencer Tribune and she moved wither parents and younger sister, Calla, to Marshfield where her father bought and edited the “Times.” The fall of 1892 the Norton’s moved to Fond du Lac and Jessie entered Ripon College to study music, alter going to Marinette where she was a compositor on the daily North Star, later known as the Marinette Eagle-Star. Still later she was employed at the Fox Theater as bookkeeper and stenographer. She had since made Marinette her home up to the time of her death, more than 50 years.

She was married in 1900 to George Bartol, who preceeded [sic] her in death.

She leaves one sister, Mrs. W. G. Holterman, 3 neices [sic] and 3 nephews and 1 great neice [sic] and 2 great nephews.

The remains lay in state at the Hanson Funeral Home until Thursday morning when they were taken to Fond du Lac where services were held from the Candlish Funeral Chapel at 2 P. M. Thursday. The Rev. Plopper of the Methodist Church officiating and burial was in the Norton family lot at Byron.

Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Holterman and son Donald J. Holterman of Spencer; Attorney E. C. Holterman and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Sweet, Madison; Miss Charlotte Holterman, Fort Atkinson; Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Holterman and son Michael and Miss Janet Holterman, Milwaukee; Mrs. Fred Schlack and Miss Josephine Tollenadge, Fond du Lac; Frank McChain and Fred Luedtke, Lomira; Mr. and Mrs. Kelsey McChain, Oakfield; and Mr. and Mrs. Herman L. Holterman and daughters, Mrs. Glen Price and Mrs Levi Morgan, Rosendale.
