Wedeking, Ottice
"Nikki" Oleane (Nickerson) (7 OCT 1925 - 10 APR 2013)
Ottice "Nikki"
Oleane Wedeking, 87, passed away on April 10, 2013 at the Cape Fear Valley
Hospital in Fayetteville, N.C.
The former Ottice O. Nickerson was born on
October 7, 1925 in Jacksons' Gap, Ala., to the late Baltzell and Annie Claire
(James) Nickerson.
On March 28, 1947 in Macon, Ga., she was united in
marriage to 1st Lt. William P. Wedeking, United States Army. The couple traveled
extensively in the military at numerous Army installations in the United States,
Far East and Europe. Nikki and Bill retired from the military in December 1961
and resided in Westboro until moving to Fayetteville in 1992, returning to
Medford in 1998.
Nikki retired in August 1986 after 20 years of retail
management with Earl Hoffman's Ben Franklin Store in Medford. Nikki served as
Associate Matron and was elected to Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern
Star, Medford Chapter 254.
"Nikki," as she was affectionately called, was
loved and admired by all who knew her. Her quiet demeanor and sense of wit and
humor was recognizable by her love and concern for all those with whom she came
in contact.
She loved comedy, art, music and enjoyed reading two books
simultaneously. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.
In addition to her
loving husband of 66 years, survivors include one daughter, Shaunee (Dean)
Johnson of Rice Lake, and son, William P. (Terri) Wedeking Jr. of Fayetteville.
In addition to her children, her legacy includes one grandchild, Tiffany (Tony
Lueck), two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Lindsey Lueck, and a
great-great-grandson, James Logan Lueck, all of Phillips.
Nikki was
preceded in death by her parents, a half-sister, Annie Field, and her brothers,
Frank and John.
Children hold their mother's hands for a while, but
forever hold her in their hearts.
Beautiful memories of Nikki will always be
cherished by all the family, as family and friends were her most treasured
possessions.
Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium will be the future
place of interment.
