Bruckert, Samuel C. (10 December 1917 - 29 May
1969)
Funeral services were held from Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal
Monday afternoon for Samuel C. Bruckert, 51, Standard Oil Company agent in
Loyal, who died last Friday morning at Memorial Hospital in Neillsville
following a heart attack. The Rev. William Humlie officiated. Burial was made in
the Loyal Cemetery, with the American Legion Post conducting graveside military
rites.
Bruckert had suffered a heart attack about eight years ago which
confined him to a hospital for about nine weeks. Friends said he had not felt
well the evening before and had retired early. Bruckert was playing golf on the
Neillsville County club course when he was stricken about 10 a.m. In the party
were Carl Myre, Paul Davel and his sons, Peter and Scott, all of Loyal.
The group had reached the seventh green when Bruckert sat down and fell
backward. He retained consciousness and told others that he felt no pain. Scott
ran to the clubhouse, about 400 yards away, where the municipal ambulance was
called. He was taken to Memorial Hospital, where he died about 11:20 a.m.
Bruckert was born December 10, 1917, in Beaver Dam, and moved shortly
afterward with his parents to Marshfield. He was graduated from high school
there, and on September 19, 1942, was married to Gwendolyn (Pitey) Catlin of
Loyal, in that city. He was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Company in Marshfield
until he entered the air force in 1942.
On his return from service, the
Bruckerts moved to Loyal, where he joined Haskins “Bud” Catlin in the operation
of the Standard Oil Agency, which he owned at the time of his death.
Bruckert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal, a member of the
American Legion, the fire department, Marshfield Elks and was a past president
of the Loyal Rotary Club.
Surviving are his wife and a son, Joseph, who
is stationed at Kessler AFB, Biloxi, Miss.
