Gordon B. Thoma, 79, of Greenwood died
Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Gordon Bobby Thoma was born Oct. 29, 1933, on the family farm in Globe, the
son of Frank Carl and Minnie (Meihak) Thoma. He attended the Globe Grade School
and worked on the family farm. He enlisted into the United States Army Jan. 7,
1955, and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and Fort Lewis, WA. He was
discharged as a Private First Class Dec. 13, 1957. He was united in marriage to
Gladys Dux May 24, 1958. Gordon farmed with his family and occasionally helped
his brother haul canned milk. In 1964, Gordon took over the family farm where
they resided until the spring of 1991, when they moved to their present address.
Gordon enjoyed spending time in the woods and sawing wood, riding his
Gator through the trails, attending auctions, hunting, berry picking, joke
telling and spending time in his shop tinkering and making wood crafts for
family and friends. Gordon was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Globe and served as a church officer. He was also a member of the
Neillsville American Legion and the Weston town board.
He is survived by
his wife, Gladys; five children, Gail (Dan) Lindgren of Loyal, Gloria (Allen)
Barrow of Brunswick, GA, Greg (Dawn) Thoma of Neillsville, Gary (Kelly) Thoma of
Neillsville, and Gina Thoma of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, Nate, Tom, Marc,
Amber, Luke, Cassandra (Andrew) Ewald, Bob, Katie, and Kaitlin; one
great-grandchild, Clara; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Dux; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and
Bobby; a sister, Irene; and a brother-in-law, Louis Dux.
Funeral services
for Gordon were held Monday, April 22, at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Globe. Pastor John Warmuth officiated. Music was provided by Karen
Hoppa, organist, and Dan and Bunny Dux, vocalists. Military rites were accorded
by the Neillsville Veterans Council. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday, April 21, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, and again from 10
a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church prior to the
service. Interment was in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Serving as casketbearers were Nate Lindgren, Tom Lindgren, Marc Lindgren,
Bob Thoma, Luke Barrow and Matt Thoma.
