Denenhardt, Albert (01 Aug 1924-16 Apr 2013)

Albert M. Degenhardt, 88, formerly of Loyal, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, surrounded with the lov of his family. Services were held on Monday, April 22, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, in Loyal, with intern\ment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

Albert Degenhardt was born on Aug. 1, 1924, in Loyal, to Frank and Gertrude (Nee Vogel) Degenhardt. On Feb. 19, 1949, in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Beaver, who preceded him in death on June 6, 2001. Albert enlisted in the Army in January 1943 to defend the United States in World War 11 and became a member of the 100th Infantry Division. His division saw action in northeastern France and western Germany and liberated or captured more than 400 towns, including Bitche, after which they were fondly named the Sons of Bitche. They also repelled the last major German offensive on the Western Front. Albert was employed by Lakeside Bridg and Steel for 35 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Among his interests, he and Dorothy enjoyed attending functions at the Eagles Club and Southside Old Time Settlers Club. He was very handy and could fix just about anything in the home. He loved spending time with his family celebrating holidays, playing cribbage and sheepshead, attending Brewers games and making annual trips to the lakefront for the fireworks, to Buffalo City on the Mississippi River for vacation, and to Loyal for the Corn Festival.

Surviving are his children, Douglas Degenhardt, Dennis (Linda) Degenhardt, Diane (John) Oakland, David (Doreen) Degenhardt, Donna (Tom) Poehlmann, and Doreen Horner; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenny Degenhardt and Harvey (Bonnie) Degenhardt; three sisters, Susie Kohlnhofer, Darlene Klann and Nancy Schmidt; a sister-in-law, Kathy Degenhardt; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Degenhardt; a sister-in-law, Lois; and a brothers-in-law Bob Klann, Joe Kohlinhofer
and Dick Schmidt.

In memory of Albert, memorials to Fisher House Foundation, Inc., housing families of hospitalized veterans at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, for compassionate care and support extended to our family over the years and to Albert in his time of need. May God bless all of you.

Bevesk-Verbick Funeral Home, West Allis, assisted the family with arrangements.

(Additional Note)

Hi Audrey – I am a son in-law of Albert Degenhardt - just a note for the Clark County website – Albert Martin Degenhardt was actually born in the Town of York. I wrote the obituary but the family wanted to list Loyal WI because he loved Loyal so much. I have many records which indicate he was born in the Town of York. Just pointing this out because I track family genealogy.
