Thoma, Gordon (29 Oct. 1933-19 April 2013)

Gordon B. Thoma, 79, Greenwood, died on Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, April 22, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe. Rev. John Warmuth officiated. Music was provided by Karen Hoppa, organist, and Dan and Bunny Dux, vocalists. Military rites were accorded by the Neillsville Veterans Council. Interment was in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were Nate Lindgren, Tom Lindgren, Marc Lindgren, Bob Thoma, Luke Barrow and Matt Thoma.

Gordon Bobby Thoma was born on Oct. 29, 1933, on the family farm in Globe, the son of Frank and Minnie (nee Meihak) Thoma. He attended the Globe Grade School and worked on the family farm. On Jan. 7, 1955, he enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Fort Lewis, Wash. He was discharged as a private first class on Dec. 13, 1957. On May 24, 1958, he married Gladys Dux. Gordon farmed with his family and occasionally helped his brother haul canned milk. In 1964, Gordon and Gladys took over the family farm where they resided until the spring of 1991 when they moved to their present residence. Gordon enjoyed spending time in the woods and sawing wood, riding his Gator through the trails, attending auctions, hunting, berry picking, joke telling, and spending time in his shop tinkering and making wood crafts for family and friends. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Globe and served as a church officer. He was also a member of the Neillsville American Legion, and the Weston Town Board.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; five children, Gail (Dan) Lingren, Loyal, Gloria (Allen) Barrow, Brunswick, Ga., Greg (Dawn) Thoma, Gary (Kelly) Thoma, and Gina Thoma, Greenwood; nine grandchildren, Nate, Tom, Marc, Amber Luke, Cassandra (Andrew) Ewald, Bob, Katie and Kaitlin; one great-grandchild, Clara; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Dux; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Bobby; a sister, Irene; and a brother-in-law, Louis Dux.
