Alfred Boon, 95, of Neillsville died
Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Alfred James Boon was born June 14, 1917, at home in the Town of Weston, the
son of Leonard and Ethel (Brown) Boon. He graduated from the Forman School and
went to work farming, logging and eventually running a milk route with his
brother, Clayton “Duke” Boon. Alfred then moved to South Milwaukee and began
working in road construction for the Morris-Martin Company. He was united in
marriage to Lucille Lueck Oct. 2, 1941. They returned to Christie, and he began
Alfred Boon Trucking. Eventually, he and his brother Clayton “Duke” formed Boon
Ros. Construction, which was later, sold to Alfred’s sons, Donald, Allan and
Melvin. Alfred and Lucille purchased a farm in the Town of Weston in 1946. They
lived there until 1982, when they sold the farm to their son, Dune, and they
moved into their new home in Christie.
Alfred was a longtime member of
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Christie, and he, along with many
others, was instrumental in the building of the new church. He and Lucille
enjoyed wintering in Texas for many years.
He is survived by six sons,
Harold (Nancy) Boon, Donald (Carol) Boon, Melvin (Cindy) Boon all of
Neillsville, Allan (Beverly) Boon, Duane (Brenda) Boon, both of Greenwood, and
Robert (Nalani) Boon of Honolulu, HI; two daughters, Lois (Louis) Hagedorn of
Neillsville and Carolyn (John) Raine of Marshfield; 16 grandchildren; five
step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren: five step-great-grandchildren; and a
special friend, Velda Walker of Neillsville.
He was preceded in death by
his wife, Lucille, in 1998; three brothers, infant brother Donald, Floyd and
Clayton “Duke” Boon; and two sisters, Dorothy Oldham and Florence Zais.
Funeral services for Alfred will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at St.
John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Christie. Pastor John Warmuth will
officiate. Music will be provided by Judy Bobrofsky, organist. Interment will be
in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Thursday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Friday at the Church in Christie.
Casketbearers are his grandsons, Mike
Boon, Matthew Raine, Jeremy Boon, Jared Boon, Josh Hagedorn, Jason Boon, Erick
Boon and Bradley Boon.
The family will establish a memorial fund for St.
John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Christie at a later date.
