Funeral services for Victor Mattila, 83, who
died at his home at Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) Sunday, were held Tuesday afternoon
at Owen at Bethany Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lauri J. Isaacson officiating.
Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Mattila was born in Finland
where his marriage to Selma Melendin took place in 1907. In 1909 they came to
the United States and settled in Michigan. In 1915 they came to the Owen-Withee
area and farmed here for 20 years. After retiring in 1943, the couple lived at
Abbotsford for one year, and then returned to Owen.
In addition to his
wife, Mr. Mattila is survived by a son, Tovio, Waukegan, Ill.; six daughters,
Mrs. Sylvia Marr, Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Lilly Wilson, Abbotsford, Mrs. Elsie
Schultz, Curtiss, Mrs. Vieno MacGuire, Burbank, Calif., Mrs. Irga Blodgett,
Somerville, N.J., and Mrs. Ina Garces, Milwaukee; 18 grandchildren; and two
brothers, Anchi Kallio and Matt Kallio, Waukegan, Ill.
