Courier (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) 6 Aug 1964
A 60 year-old Chicago
grandmother died in St. Joseph’s Hospital about noon Friday of injuries suffered
in a car-truck accident at Curtiss Corners, 6 miles west of Abbotsford on
Highway 29, at 9:45 a.m. Friday.
Dead as the result of the crash is Mrs.
Charles Bury, Chicago, Ill., who doctors said suffered multiple injuries that
included compound skull fractures and compound fractures of legs and arms.
Also hospitalized as a result of the crash were Mrs. Bury’s daughter, Mrs.
Dallas Ewald, 34, West Chicago, Ill., and her young son, Eric, 4. Mrs. Ewald
suffered a compound fracture of the knee and her son suffered only a cut on the
head. Both were listed as being in “good” condition.
Mrs. Annette Bury,
60, of Chicago, became Clark County’s 16th highway death of the year in the
collision at the Curtiss corners. The 1963 model car driven by Mrs. Bury’s
daughter, Mrs. Dallas Ewald, 34, also of Chicago, passed a cattle truck driven
by H. K. Christianson of Abbotsford.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Staron of
Stanley, and daughter Fran of Bellwood, Illinois, enjoyed a fourteen-day motor
trip throughout several eastern states.
After leaving Stanley, they drove
to the Mackinac Bridge, crossing it between upper and lower Michigan. Then they
continued to Bay City, Michigan, across part…….Turnpike through Pennsylvania,
Ohio and Indiana. After reaching Chicago, Ill., they visited with Mrs. Victoria
Holewinski during the evening, and were overnight guests at the Henry Nyckel
home in Bellwood, Illinois. They motored to Pekin, Illinois to visit with Mrs.
Anna Ziemba, then on to Antioch, Ill. to spend a few hours with Mr. and Mrs.
Wally Zmuch and family.
They continued to Sheboygan, Wis., spending the
night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Patchak and family. During their stay in
Sheboygan, Mr. and Mrs. Patchak drove them for a pleasant visit near Plymouth,
Wis. with Mr. and Mrs. Al Artaba… who now live in this beautiful location.
Hence, the Starons motored into Stanley after making about 3,600 miles. Miss
Fran Staron will spend a few days at the home of her parents before returning to
Bellwood.
