Jared Werner and another member of his squad were wounded
while serving with the United States Army in Afghanistan in late April. Both are
now recovering at the medical complex at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
Chow Werner said Jared is ambulatory and doing OK. Jared’s mother was
leaving today for Texas to visit him. “He is getting up and able to walk. It
sounds like everything is going to be alright,” Chow Werner said.
Jared
Werner is a specialist 4 and combat engineer in the Army. He was about five
months into his first deployment to Afghanistan when he was wounded. He was
stationed at White Sands, N. M. prior to the deployment. Werner graduated from
Medford Area Senior High in 2007 and joined the army after college.
The
family was notified of the wounding in late April. He was treated in Afghanistan
and transferred to Germany for follow-up surgeries before being sent to Texas.
