Steen, Raymond W. Sr. (18 FEB 1929 - 9 MAY 2013)
Former Town of Deer Creek resident Raymond W. Steen Sr., 84, Colby, died on
Thursday, May 9 at Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Colby, where he had resided the
past seven months. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 11 at Immanuel
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. Joshua Krieger officiating.
Interment was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.
Pallbearers were James
Steen, Todd and Jon Rau, Kent Mayer, Ryan Thurs, Brian Loushine and Tom and
Trever Meyer.
Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the
family with arrangements.
Raymond Steen was born on February 18, 1929 in
the Town of Greenwood to the late Henry and Amanda (Dassow) Steen. He attended
Town of Greenwood elementary schools.
On May 15, 1948 at Immanuel
Evangelical Lutheran Church, he married Jean Kloth, who survives. He farmed in
the Towns of Deer Creek and Browning until retirement. He also hauled milk for
Gad Cheese, made butter for the Medford Creamery and did woods work.
He
was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed polka music
dancing, Brewers baseball and making birdhouses.
In addition to his wife,
survivors include four children, Raymond Jr. (Lynn), Karen (Leon) Rau and Lynn
(Ronald) Mayer, all of Medford and Glen (Cheryl) Steen of Athens; three
siblings, Phyllis (Don) Brunner of Medford, Bonnie Leach of Kenosha, and Roger
(Barb) of Westboro; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Steen of Dorchester;
brother-in-law, Lanny Zimmerlee of Medford; nine grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by a brother, Galen, a sister, Shelby Zimmerlee, and a brother-in-law, Ervin
Leach.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to
Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and School or Hope Hospice.
