Hotel and Opera House Destroyed at Abbotsford
Abbotsford, Wis. - Damages estimated at more than $30,000 was caused here
today by fire which completely destroyed the Abbotsford Hotel and the Opera
House.
The fire started in the walls of the hotel from what is believed
to have been a defective chimney.
Two persons were injured by an
explosion, which occurred when the flames reached the basement of the hotel,
where several barrels of gasoline were said to have been stored.
Herman
Cornelius, proprietor of the hotel, suffered cuts and bruises as the result of
the explosion. As did Harry Olson, who was a member of the volunteer fire
department which battled the flames.
