Steffen, Emil (7 APR 1878 - 21 OCT 1964)

Services were held Saturday, Oct. 24 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Riplinger, for Emil Steffen, 86, rural Colby, who passed away at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1964, after a lingering illness. Rev. Melford Younker officiated at the 2 p.m. service and burial was made in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield.

Pallbearers were Perry Schulz, Robert Smudde, Riley Neuman, bill Zassenhaus, Frank Krueger and Peter Jecevicus. Funeral arrangements were handled by Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby.

Mr. Steffen was born at Bern, Switzerland April 7, 1878, and came to this country at the age of 23, settling in Green County. He was married to the former Lena Hahn Nov. 7, 1917, at Monroe. The couple moved to the town of Beaver (Clark Co., Wis.) in Clark County, where they farmed until 13 years ago when they moved to their present farm in the Town of Colby.

Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Henry (Helen) Schuh, Curtiss, Mrs. Charles (Irene) Dumler, Riplinger, Mrs. Walter (Caroline) Boettcher, Stratford, Mrs. Orlo (Iris) Furman, Loyal, and Mrs. James (Allaire) Hallowell, Loyal; two sons, Emil of Milwaukee and Henry of Antioch, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Miss Louise Steffen, New York, and a brother, Gottlieb Steffen, Bern, Switzerland.

One daughter and two brothers preceded him in death.
