Funeral services for Arthur Steele, 89, who died at his
home in Abbotsford Sunday afternoon, Nov. 8, 1964, of complications of age, were
held Wednesday afternoon. The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home
from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning, when it was taken to the Methodist
Church at Thorp where funeral services were held at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Scott
of Stanley officiating.
Grandsons served as pallbearers for the interment
which was made in the East Thorp Cemetery.
Arthur Floyd Steele was born
on Sept. 13, 1875, in the town of Warner, near Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.). His
marriage to Anna Barrett tok place at Thorp. She preceded her husband in death
May 22, 1939.
Mr. Steele farmed in the Greenwood and Thorp areas before
coming to Abbotsford.
His marriage to Mrs. Elsie Marten of Abbotsford,
who survives him, took place June 15, 1945. They made their home at Abbotsford.
Also surviving him are a son, Arthur Jr. of Thorp, and three daughters, Mrs.
John (Ruth) Zimmer of Greenwood, mrs. Otto (Nina) Parge of Solon Springs, and
Mrs. Charles (Maude) Frinack of Thorp. There are a number of grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Four sons, Ralph, Ernest, Paul and Roger, preceded
him in death.
