Kocian, J.B. (27 JUN 1891 - 17 NOV 1964)
Funeral services for J.B. Kocian, 73, Colby, will be held Thursday, Nov. 26,
1964 at the Heind Funeral Home in Owen. The body was taken from Lulloff Funeral
Home in Colby at 4 p.m. Wednesday, after it had lain in state there since
Tuesday evening. Burial will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Phillips.
Mr. Kocian died at his home in the town of Hull (Marathon Co., Wis.) early
Monday morning, following a lingering diesease.
J.B. Kocian was born June
27, 1891 at Hay Springs, Neb. He came to Phillips with his mother in 1911, and
they farmed there until June 17, 1914, when he married Josephine Bosak at
Phillips. The couple farmed south of Phillips for 16 years, after which they
moved to a farm in the Abbotsford area. In 1945 the Kocians moved to their
present farm in the town of Hull. They celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary Jan. 17, 1964. During his life Mr. Kocian served as chairman of the
town of Worchester, clerk of the Pioneer School Board and numerous other offices
in the Phillips area.
J.B. Kocian is survived by his wife; one son, Elmer
of Colby; three daughters, Mrs. Rudolph (Lillian) Dvorak of Wausau, Mrs. Harry
(Margaret) Zrutskie of Colby, and Mrs. Dale (Adeline) Vaughn of Ft. Smith, Ark.;
one sister, Mrs. Lillian Neideffer of Tacoma, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, in infancy.
