Stuttgen, Hildegard “Hilda” (Wettstein) (24 MAR 1916 - 26 MAY 2013)

Hildegard “Hilda” Stuttgen, 97, of Colby, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013, at her residence in the Town of Colby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby.

Father Dan Hackel will officiate. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with a Rosary at 4:00 pm and again visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of services at St. Mary’s in Colby.

Hildegard was born March 24, 1916, to Edwin and Anna (Grewe) Wettstein. She attended Saint Joseph’s Catholic School in Boyd. Hildegard and Nicholas Stuttgen were united in marriage on September 8, 1936, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boyd. After their marriage they farmed in the Stanley-Boyd area until Dec. 6, 1953, when they bought a farm in the Town of Colby and continued to farm until 1971, when they moved off the farm and retired.

Hilda was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. She was a member of St. Mary’s Christian Mothers and the Colby VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, sewing, and crocheting. She also loved flowers and tending to her gardens, she was the last member of her card club.

Hilda is lovingly survived by her children, Patricia (Clifford) Wentzel of Spencer, Carol (Edward) Williams of Janesville, Delores Stuttgen of Colby, Donald (Carol) Stuttgen of Eau Claire, Bernard (Colene) Stuttgen of Thorp, Raymond (Kathleen) Stuttgen of Janesville, Anthony (Debra) Stuttgen of Unity, Melvin Stuttgen of Colby, Charles (Darla) Stuttgen of Athens, Sister Kathy Stuttgen of La Crosse, James (Barbara) Stuttgen of Athens, John Stuttgen of La Crosse, William (Debra) Stuttgen of Spencer, Thomas Stuttgen of Colby, Dale (Sandra) Stuttgen of Colby and Robert (Pam) Stuttgen of Colby; 51 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Rita Stuttgen of Stanley.

Hilda is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nicholas Stuttgen; a son, Lawrence Stuttgen; a daughter-in-law, Carol Stuttgen; five grandchildren and eight brothers and sisters.
