Blaney, Lon (16 April 1945-22 May 2013)
Lon L. Blaney, 68, Loyal, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at
Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11
a.m., on Tuesday, May 28, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Globe,
Rural Neillsville. Rev. John Warmuth officiated. Burial followed in the Southern
Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
Lon Lee Blaney was
born on April 16, 1945, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Lewis and Lydia (nee
Schoenherr) Blaney. The family moved to Neillsville for a few years and then
settled in Kenosha, where Lon graduated from Bradford High School. He enlisted
in the U.S. Navy on July 22, 1963, and served o0n the U.S.S. Hancock until his
honorable discharge on Aug. 21, 1967. Lon returned to Kenosha, worked as a
journeyman carpenter, and also enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves, where he
served for 20 years. He bought a farm near Fairchild, where he raised beef
cattle for a few years. He then sold the farm and purchased a dairy farm
northeast of Greenwood, which he farmed until 2003. He sold the farm and
purchased the Star Lodge Motel, in Loyal, which he operated until the present
time. Lon was a past member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Kenosha, and enjoyed
baseball, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
He
will be dearly missed by his mother, Lydia Blaney, Neillsville, one brother,
Lyndell Blaney, Denver, Colo.; one sister, Lisa (Rev. Paul) Ibisch, Columbus;
three nieces; four nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was
preceded in death by his father, Lewis Blaney; and one brother, Larry Blaney.
