Gajda, Carole (1 AUG 1964)
Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Lublin was the scene for the Saturday, August
1st wedding of Miss Carole Gajda and Richard James Shimel. Rev. Glocar performed
the 10:30 a.m. ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Gajda, Lublin, and Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Shimel, Merrill.
The bride, who was
given in marriage by her father, chose a floor length gown of gleaming stapeau.
A bateau neckline and elbow length sleeves accented the fitted bodice
embellished with pearl touched Alençon lace appliques. The bell skirt softly
draped at the side, and featured two small bows with lace frosted streamers at
the back and a removable chapel train. Pearl-tipped organza roses held her
bouffant veil of illusion and she carried a cascade bouquet of white Fugi
chrysanthemums.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Charlotte Shimel, sister-in-law
of the groom. Bridesmaids were Miss Sandra Gill, friend, Miss Joann Gajda,
cousin of the bride, and Miss Linda Gajda, sister of the bride. They wore floor
length dresses of shantastek in beauty rouge. Scoop necklines and elbow length
sleeves accented the fitted bodice styled with a wrap back and two small bows.
The skirt was styled with unpressed pleats. They wore a daisy cluster over veil
for the headpiece and carried a semi-cascade of white Marguerette daisies.
Cindy Klienschmidt, niece of the groom, was flower girl and David Bacza,
cousin of the bride, was ring bearer.
Bill Shimel was his brother’s best
man. Ushers were Bill Sweda, friend, Larry Gajda, brother of the bride, and Dan
Welgos, friend.
A dinner for 75 guests was held in the church basement
and a reception at 5:30 for 450 guests was at St. Hedwig’s Hall in Thorp, where
a dance followed with music by Jerry’s Jolly Jesters.
The bride, a 1960
graduate of Thorp High School and 1963 graduate of Taylor Co. Teacher’s College,
is an elementary school teacher at Bruce School. The groom graduated from
Merrill High School in 1956 and River Falls in 1960, and is a secondary school
teacher in the Flambeau School District.
After a wedding trip to
Winnipeg, Canada, the new couple will make their home at 309-1/2 River Ave. E.,
Ladysmith.
