Butterfield, Claude (2 JAN 1878 – 9 SEP
1964)
Funeral services for Claude Lee Butterfield, 86, who died of a
ventricular fibrication on Sept. 9 at Bellefontaine, Ohio, were held on Friday,
Sept. 11th. Rev. Robert Goessling of Owen officiated at the two p.m. service and
burial was made in the Sylvan Cemetery, Reseburg Township.
Pallbearers
were all grandsons; Keith and Roscoe Jr. Butterfield, Harvey and Larry Briggs,
and Goren and Glendale Zell.
Mr. Butterfield, a retired farmer,
well-driller and lumberman, was born January 2, 1878 at Reedsburge, Sauk County,
Wis. He served in the merchant marines as fireman on the “Maryland” on the Great
Lakes during World War II. He has resided in the following places: Aniwa, Wis.,
Thorp Wis. in Reseburg township, Hayward, Wis. and Bellefontaine, Ohio, and also
spent two winters in Pomona Park, Florida. In September 1901, he was united in
marriage to Hattie Birdena Wilson Briggs at Baraboo, Wis. She preceded him in
death September 3, 1953.
Surviving are three sons; Roscoe, Hayward,
Lester, Thorp, Claude, Santee, Calif.; one stepson, Raymond Briggs, Hayward; two
daughters, (Edythe) Mrs. M.F. Robinson, San Diego, Calif., (Lillian) Mrs. L. F.
Zell, Bellefontaine, Ohio; one brother, Floyd L. Butterfield of Wisconsin
Rapids; one sister (Ethel) Mrs. Geo. Soam, Chatsworth, Calif; one uncle, George
Butterfield of Reedsburg, Wis., 30 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 4
great-great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a stepson,
Gordon Briggs, one son, Lloyd, two baby daughters, Bernice and Lois, and two
sisters, Lena and Gertrude.

and Mrs. Raymond Briggs, Hayward; Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Butterfield, sons Roscoe,
Tom, Forrest and daughter Kathy of Hayward; Mrs. M.F. (Edythe) Robinson, San
Diego, Calif. and …
