Kiefer, Marjorie M. (7 May 1919 - 12 May 2013)

Marjorie M. (nee Slota) Staroselec) Kiefer, age 94, formerly of Gilman, recently of Thorp, passed away on Sunday, Mother’s Day, May 12, 2013, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley. Marjorie was born May 7, 1919, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of the late Bernard & Victoria (Moore) Slota. Marjorie grew up in the Gilman area, graduating from Gilman High School as the class salutatorian in 1937. She then continued her schooling at the Taylor County Normal School. Marjorie began her teaching career in 1939 in the one room Pioneer School near Jump River. She then taught at the Polley State Grade School, the Gilman School District and Franklin Park, IL School District before her marriage to Edmund Staroselec on December 20, 1945, in Gilman. Marjorie took time off from teaching to help raise her family of four children. During this time, her husband unfortunately passed away in 1959.

Marjorie later went back to school to earn her Bachelors of Science Degree from Mt. Scenario College, Ladysmith. From 1966-1983 she lovingly taught 2nd grade children at the Valley View School in Menomonee Falls, retiring after 17 dedicated years. During this time, Marjorie married Norbert Kiefer in Menomonee Falls. Marjorie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Menomonee Falls, of which she also did volunteer work, an American Legion Auxiliary member for 64 years, and a member of the National Education Association and the homemakers Club. She always loved to travel and enjoyed music, reading, baking and gardening.

Marjorie is survived by four children from her first marriage: Mary Louise (Gerald) Skalecki of Holcombe, George (Kathy) Staroselec of Whitefish Bay, Tom (Silvia) Starr of Chippewa Falls, and Edmund (Maureen) Staroselec of Sussex; step-daughter, Sandra (Darryl) Werner of Surprise, AZ. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Denise (Ted) Feisst, Patrick (Brenda) Skalecki, Tess (Robert) Laird, Kristina Starr, Sean (Nichole) Staroselec, Cormac Staroselec; step-grandchildren: Dawn Norby, Debra Niedermann; great-grandchildren: Adam and Nicholas Feisst, Austin and Lindsey Skalecki, Noah and Noelle Laird, Kayla, MacKenzie, Donovan, Abigail, Connor Staroselec; plus Slota family nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edmund Staroselec, in 1959; husband, Norbert Kiefer, in 2001; brother, Dr. Bernard Slota; and sister-in-law, Lenore Slota.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Gilman, with Fr. Madanu Sleeva Raju officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Brook Cemetery, Gilman. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church on Friday morning.

Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman is assisting the family with arrangements.
