Eleanor Elizabeth Hlavac, age 94, of Spencer, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Golden Living Center Three Oaks in Marshfield 16 days short of her 95th birthday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Friday, June 7, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Spencer. Father Samuel Martin will officiate. A visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church in Spencer. Burial will follow the service at West Spencer Cemetery.

Eleanor was born on June 17, 1918 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Ludwig and Anna (Bagon) Thurzo. She attended McKinley High School. Eleanor married Joseph Hlavac on January 12, 1936 in Chicago. They moved to Spencer in 1948 to take over the family homestead. They farmed together until 1965. Eleanor retired from Land O`Lakes in 1981 after 29 years of employment. She loved flowers and had beautiful perennial beds. She enjoyed cooking on the holidays for her family and going to the casino. She and Joe spent their summers camping and fishing on Soldberg Lake in Phillips.

She loved to travel with her family and friends, going to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, yearly gambling trips to Las Vegas and many other states. Her only regret was that she never went to Japan.

Eleanor was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, PCCW, YMCA, and Forum 55. She also volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She is survived by her children: James (Karleen) Hlavac of Marshfield and Nancy (James) Moede of Marshfield; her grandchildren: Karen (Dave) Tyler of Granton, Kathy (Dave) Selz of Lewisville, TX, James Hlavac II of Marshfield, Janet (Lance) Roth of Marshfield, and Jason (LeAnn) Hlavac Marshfield, Michele (Tom) Parker of Petersburg, AK, and Melissa (Jason Mogen) of Ewok, AK. Eleanor is further survived by 16 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, of 62 years, three brothers, three sisters, one great grandchild, and one nephew

Eleanor was a loving wife, mother grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed telling stories, always made everyone around her feel special and loved. She will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Living Center Three Oaks and Back Country Manor for their compassionate care and kindness of our mother.
