Washburn (11 September 1969)
David Austin, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Merle Austin, and Dale Reinart, son of mr. and Mrs. John Reinart,
enjoyed a trip over the weekend riding on their motorcycles. They left home
about 9 a.m. Saturday and arrived at the hoe of Dale’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and
Mrs. Don Feuerhelm, in Hokah, Minn., at 11:30. Saturday afternoon they rode to
Winona, Minn., and to Alma, where they visited the locks. These locks are 600
feet long. The boys watched a barge go through the locks which was so long it
had to be taken in two pieces and pulled through by cables. They then rode along
the Mississippi, crossed at Nelson, rode back to La Crosse and then to Hokah,
Minn., where they had supper and spent the night with the Feuerhelms. After
attending church on Sunday morning they rode to Lansing, Ia., where they crossed
the bridge into Wisconsin. They rode along the Mississippi to Prairie du Chien
and then to Tomah, where they had dinner at Joe Reinarts and also visited the
William and George Reinart families. From there they rode to Babcock, Nekoosa
and Port Edwards and on to Wisconsin Rapids. (A line or two were missing here).
