Norman E. Lukas, 92, of Abbotsford, passed away Tuesday, June
4, 2013, at Pine Ridge Assisted Living Center in Colby where he resided since
January. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 7,
2013, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Dan Hackel will
officiate.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of
services at the church in Abbotsford. Burial will follow the service at the
Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald Schauer, Jerry Weideman,
Jason Merkel, Jim Merkel, Tim Bunkelman and Gary Viegut.
Norman was born
February 3, 1921, in North Chicago to Frank and Ann (Wysocki) Lukas. He attended
Abbotsford Public Schools.
He married Helen Lundahl in October 1946. She
preceded him in death in July 1970.
Norman farmed in the Town of
Mayville. He was also the Township Supervisor for the Town of Mayville. Norman
then worked as a custodian at the Abbotsford High School until his retirement in
1986.
Norman married Joyce Viegut in September 1983, she survives.
He was a member of Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church.
He was an avid
stamp, coin and postcard collector. Norman also enjoyed fishing, bowling and
playing bingo with his friends.
Norman is survived by his wife, Joyce
Lukas of Abbotsford; three children, Joanne Merkel of Lewiston, MN, Gary (Sandy)
Lukas of Abbotsford and Patricia Lukas of Madison; two step-children, Patsy
(Tim) Bunkelman of Abbotsford and Gary (Jody) Viegut of Abbotsford; his
grandchildren, Janelle Weaver, Michelle Dungy, Jason Merkel and James “Jim”
Merkel; eleven great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one
great-stepchild.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents; twin sons;
one daughter and one step-daughter.
