JAY EUBANKS, FORMER RESIDENT DIES AT ASHLAND

Jay H. Eubanks, 78, retired Soo Line Conductor, and prominent in civic affairs, died at Trinty Hospital, Ashland, Thursday, September 3, 1964.

He was born May 19, 1886, at Clear Lake, Wisconsin, and spent his youth at Clear Lake and Menomonie, Wisconsin.

He was married to Mabel Pinkerton December 9, 1908, at Park Falls, Wisconsin.

He completed 50 years of service as conductor with the Soo Line in 1956 and went to Mellen soon afterwards to make his home. He and Mrs. Eubanks went to California in November of 1962 to be near their daughter, Elinor in Indio, and had just returned to their home in Mellen in mid-August.

Mr. Eubanks was a member of the Masonic Order, of the Consistory at Eau Claire and the Shrine Zor Temple at Madison. He was a member of the Order of Railway Conductors, member of the Mellen Union Congregational Church and of the Mellen Country Club.

During his railroad career he served out of St. Paul, Minn., Ladysmith, Superior, Mellen and Owen. He and his wife resided here for seven years and prior to moving to Owen made their home a short while in Withee. They left here for Mellen about 10 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Lucille) Sachse, Madison, and Miss Elinor M. Eubanks, Indio, Calif., and one son, Dr. James C. Eubanks, and three grandchildren of Tacoma, Wash; one sister, Mrs. Eleanor Evans, St. Paul, Minn.

Masonic services were held at the Bruns Funeral Home, Mellen, at 8:00 p.m. Friday, and funeral services from the Union congregational Church, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Walkenhorst officiating. Burial was in the Mellen Union Cemetery.

Attending the services from Owen were Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Haire and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wedding.
