Swenson, Evelyn
Juanita (15 December 1920 - 9 May 2013)
Evelyn Juanita (Nelsestuen)
Swenson, 92, of Ettrick/Neillsville died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Grand View
Care Center in Blair.
She was born Dec. 15, 1920, in French Creek to
Julius and Belva (Solberg) Nelsestuen. Evelyn was a 1939 graduate of Blair High
School.
Evelyn married Edward Swenson June 28, 1939. Together they
farmed in the township of Franklin and later in French Creek until 1957. In
addition to helping on the farm, Evelyn worked full-time for the Surge factory
in Galesville.
After her retirement, she had more time to spend working
with her beloved flowers. She also enjoyed writing poems and songs, shopping and
spending time with family, friends and her pets. The coffee pot was always on,
and there was always something wonderful to eat at Evie’s.
Evelyn is
survived by two sons, Wallace (Nancy) of Whitehall and Randall (Rose Schreiner)
of Neillsville; three grandsons, David (Denise) of St. Cloud, MN, Andrew (Sheila
Traynor) of Madison and Brian (Jennifer Friedberg) of Roswell, GA; and three
great-grandsons, Isaac and Jacob Swenson of St. Cloud, MN, and Noah
Swenson-Friedberg of Roswell, GA. She is also survived by a sister-in-law,
Marian Swenson of Blair, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a special nephew,
Cletus (Lois) Casey, whom she considered her “little brother”. She was very
close to Cletus and Lois, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
always thinking herself as another grandma to all “The Casey Kids.”
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; a brother,
Joseph Nelsestuen; and two sisters, Lillian Hamilton and Anna Dean Casey.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8,
2013, at Living Hope Lutheran Church, Ettrick. Visitation will be held one hour
prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the French Creek
Lutheran Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Grand View
Care Center for the excellent care Evie received during her final years.
Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville Chapel, assisted the family.
