Engel, Monion A. (1945* - 10 AUG 1964**)

Death notices obtained from the Medford High School, Class of 1963 Index of Kay (Resech) Ludwig.

Medford - Taylor County’s eighth highway traffic fatality for 1964 claimed the life of Monion Engel, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Engel, route 1, Medford, about 1:20 a.m. today.

The victim apparently had fallen asleep while driving south along Highway 13, about a mile north of the city. He was alone in a car which authorities said had run off the east side of the highway and crashed into a utility pole. There were no tire marks on the roadway to indicate that an attempt had been made to stop the car. The impact damaged the vehicle severely.

Passing motorists notified authorities. L. C. Krueger, county traffic officer, who investigated at the scene, said Monion apparent had died instantly from the injuries inflicted when the car struck the pole.

The body is at the Ruesch Funeral Home, but arrangements for the services are incomplete.

In addition to his parents, Monion is survived by three brothers, Wayne, Russell and Don. The latter recently became a member of the Medford Police Department.

Monion lived with his parents, but had been employed in Medford.
