Sillick, Charles (1837? - 28 JAN
1912)
The following was taken from the Teeswater News, Teeswater, Ontario
of Feb. 1st, about the death of Charles Sillick, father of Dr. F.E. Sillick of
this city.
One who has been a familiar figure in Teeswater, and one of
the early settlers of Cuiross, was removed by death on Sunday night, Jan. 28,
1912, at seven o'clock. Deceased had been confined to his bed for some weeks
before his death, growing weaker every day until the final call came. He was
aged 74 years. Deceased was a man who in his youth was very energetic and
accomplished feats in the bush (woods) and harvest field that few men could
duplicate. When he first came to Cuiross he worked out among the farmers and
helped to clear a number of farms in the vicinity of Teeswater. For a long time
he lived on the 12th concession of Cuiross, and also for a time lived on
concession 6. Retiring from the farm he and Mrs. Sillick came to Teeswater and
have resided on Cigrinda Street ever since. He was a member of the Teeswater
Methodist Church, was one of the most regular attendants and lived an exemplary
Christian life. The funeral on Tuesday afternoon was largely attended, his old
friends and neighbors paying the last respects to the departed.
He
leaves, besides a widow, one daughter, Mrs. Jos. McKague of Cuiross and two
sons, Messrs. Will and Finlay.
