Bravener, Adelbert W. (11 SEP 1926 - 23 JUN 2013)

Adelbert W. "Dell" Bravener, age 86, of Marshfield, formerly of Greenwood, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 23, 2013, with family members present. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013. at Zion United Methodist Church in Marshfield. Rev. Mike Carlson will officiate and burial will follow in Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dicky Bravener, Daniel Richard, Jason Bravener, Luke Bravener, Kevin Bravener and Jonathan Bravener. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home, in Greenwood, on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and at church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Adelbert William Bravener was born on September 11, 1926, in the town of Frederika, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Albert W. and Alice M. (Johnson) Bravener. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Frederika area, graduating from Frederika High School in 1945. After completing high school, Dell was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 7, 1945 and served until his honorable discharge on December 16, 1946. He returned to Waterloo, Iowa and worked at Rath Meat Packing. On May 31, 1947, Dell was united in marriage to Norma J. Teter at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, in Nashua, Iowa. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1997. They lived in Waterloo until 1950, when they moved to Loyal, WI and farmed until moving to Greenwood, WI in 1957. They farmed in Greenwood until retiring in 1994. In addition to farming, Dell worked for ABS Breeders for 42 years, worked at Thomas Stockyard in Greenwood, which he bought in 1972 and operated until 1978. He was also a semi driver.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, in Greenwood, and the Greenwood American Legion.

Dell had many interests, but especially loved his family and really enjoyed spending time with all of them; supporting his grandchildren's events; was an avid sports fan, especially Packer football and Brewer baseball; playing cards and fishing.

He is survived by his children, Carol (Dan) Richard of Marshfield, WI; Dick (Vicki) Bravener of Marshfield, WI; Danny (Toni) Bravener of Greenwood, WI; Ken (Karen) Bravener of Indian Trail, NC; Barb (Rich) Kane of Platteville, WI; Arnie (Brenda) Bravener of Arpin, WI; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, William (Geri) Bravener of Tripoli, Iowa; one sister, LaDonna Bergmann of Frederika, Iowa; 2 brothers-in-law, Herschel (Colleen) Teter of Marshfield, WI; Dale (Barbara) Teter of Granton, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma, on March 31, 2004; and 5 sisters: Velletta Johnston, Valeria Schwartz, Claire White, Cleona Sonday and Lucille Bravener.

During the past years he lived at the Aster Retirement Community in Marshfield, WI. While at Aster, he enjoyed helping the other residents, but mostly he enjoyed playing Smear. He helped to welcome new residents, and will be missed by all. The family wishes to thank the staff at Aster Retirement Community for all of their services.
