Hawley, Joyce I. (23 June 1934 - 11 June 2013)

Joyce I. Hawley, 78, of Merrillan died early Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013, in the Family Heritage Care Center in Black River Falls while under the care of the health care staff and Black River Memorial Hospice.

Joyce was born in West Allis June 23, 1934, to Harley and Cynthia (Johnson) Hostrawser. She married Clayton W. Hawley, Sr. in Augusta Oct. 15, 1949. After their marriage, the couple lived in the Wrightsville area of the Town of Alma in Jackson County, Plover, Black River Falls and Alma Center before moving to Merrillan. Clayton preceded his wife in death May 6, 2009.

Joyce worked at the former Dadco Food products (Pizza factory) in Black River Falls, and she was a certified nursing assistant at the Family Heritage Care Center for 28 years. She enjoyed putting together jig-saw puzzles, collecting recipe books and dolls and bird watching. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at the Assembly of God Church in Alma Center.

Surviving are her six sons, Clayton (Linda) Hawley, Jr., Merrillan, Chuck (Pat) Hawley, Black River Falls, Allan (Theresa) Hawley, Merrillan, Robin (Judy) Hawley, Merrillan, Mick (Debbie) Hawley, Hixton and Jeff Hawley, Winneconne; one daughter, Shelby (Vonnie) Hawley, Humbird, 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Allan Hostrawser, Black River Falls; and two sisters, Barbara (Dale) Mills, La Crosse, and Alice Hall, Colorado.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Glenn, William, Price and Dean; and two sisters, Janice and Pearl.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Assembly of God Church in Alma Center. Services were conducted by Rev. Carl Bauchspiess, and burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery in Alma Center. Relatives and friends called at the church Saturday from noon until the time of services.

The Buswell Funeral Home (715-284-2231) of Black River Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
