Loyal and Thorp are taking the necessary steps to incorporate as a village.
S.M. Marsh of the firm of O'Neill and marsh, attorneys at law, Neillsville,
is a candidate for county judge.
Eugene Cummings returned home from
Bayfield Wednesday.
Dave Shanks is taking up his well and cutting it up
into postholes.
Last Friday afternoon the city was startled by the cry of
fire, which was soon found to be in the south wing of the schoolhouse, where a
fire was burning briskly between the plastering and siding. A bucket brigade was
formed and the fire soon extinguished.
Although we have had sleighing for
about three months, there has not been a day when a sleigh ran good. Lumbermen
in this vicinity are getting their winter's work well along. Saturday night
Coleman had in on Black River 5,500,000. James Bryden had in the same amount,
with 3,000,000 yet to get in. J.C. Miller had banked 1,900,000, so if the winter
holds out as long as usual the cut will overrun the estimate.
