A double ring ceremony at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Leroy, Minnesota, on
July 23, 1977 at 3 p.m. united Barbara Marie Meyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Meyer, Colby, and Gerald Alan Payne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Verlis Payne,
Chester, Iowa.
The wedding ceremony was performed by the Rev. Gary Olson and the Rev. Vernon
Schaffer. Mrs. Lloyd Hyberger was the organist, Mrs. Gary Olson was the soloist
and Scott Reeve was the Trumpeter.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of white
quiana satin. Designed and sewn by the bride’s mother, the dress featured a
mandarin collar, chiffon sleeves and sewn down pleats across the front of the
fitted bodice. She wore a small marriage cross and diamond earrings, which was a
gift from the groom. She carried a bouquet of peach Belinda roses and baby’s
breath.
Jeanne Toews, friend of the bride and bridegroom, served as maid of honor. She
wore a floor length peach colored knit dress with an empire waistline. The beige
bodice and cuffs were embroidered in a pastel floral design. Sprigs of baby’s
breath were worn in her hair. Bridesmaids were Ann Markus, sister of the bride,
Joyce Tesmer and Pat Utz, friends of the bride. Their attire was identical to
that worn by the maid of honor. Each carried a large white feathered mum. Mary
Talbott, friend of the bride, was her personal attendant.
Bill Hintz served as best man, with Bruce Mensink, Dave Meyers, and Doug Wolford
serving as groomsmen. All are friends of the bridegroom. Don and Dale Payne,
brothers of the bridegroom, were ushers. Monte Payne, brother of the bridegroom,
Rusty and Mathew Schroeder, nephews of the bridegroom, and Chad Johnson, nephew
of the bride, were at the door of the church, in charge of programs.
A reception followed the ceremony in the church hall, which was decorated in
yellow with fresh cut garden flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Hawkins, friends of the
couple, were the host and hostess for the reception. Following the reception,
the guests were invited to the home of the new couple for a yard party, and onto
a wedding dance in the evening held at Lime Springs, Chester Community Center.
After a wedding trip to Lake Michigan, the couple are making their home at
LeRoy. The bride is teaching at LeRoy High School and the groom is employed at
the First State Bank of LeRoy.

80 persons attended the seventh annual Malchow family reunion at Dorchester Park
August 20, 1977.
Festivities began with a potluck dinner at noon. Clifford Malchow, North Brook,
Illinois, gave the invocation, and one moment of silence was observed for Fred
Malchow, 85, who passed away during the past year. He was one of 10 children of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Malchow. Mrs. Alvina Marlow was the only one of the
original family at the reunion. Mrs. Hugo Zenker, Park Falls, the only other
living family member, was unable to attend because of illness.
Herbert Werner served as Master of Ceremonies. A gift from Hawaii was presented
to Mr. and Mrs. Werner and Mr. and Mrs. L. Genrich for their part in making the
reunions a success. Susan, Linda and Kim Rau entertained with several musical
selections.
It was decided to hold a reunion again next year on the third Saturday in August
at Dorchester. Games were played and prizes awarded. Picture albums were on
display.

About 50 descendants of the late William Pope met at a family reunion at the
Dorchester Park on August 14, 1977. Following a potluck dinner, a variety of
games were played, qith Mrs. Kayo Pope and Mrs. Kenneth Ellenbecker in charge.
Old time picture albums were displayed. At a business meeting, Warren Pope,
Wausau, was re-elected president and Mrs. Ellenbecker, secretary. It was planned
to have a reunion on the second Sunday in August 1979 at the Dorchester Park. A
committee named will make the plans in early spring that year.

Anna Brecke, Mr. and Mrs. Mr. and Mrs. William Werner and Mrs. Orlean Pope,
Medford; Mrs. Jeff Jicinsky, Mosinee; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ellenbecker,

About 100 persons were present at the Weber family reunion Saturday at
Dorchester Park.
The affair began with a potluck dinner at noon, and was followed by games for
all ages in the afternoon, with prizes awarded in various games. Mrs. Cletus
Weber was in charge of arrangements.

In a ceremony performed on Saturday afternoon, August 6, 1977 at St. Peter’s
Catholic Church, Caledonia, Minnesota, John Boss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon
Boss, Curtiss, claimed as his bride, Karen Klug, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Wilfred Klug, Caledonia.
Priest for the mass was Rev. Joseph Pete. Ushers for the ceremony were Dennis
Boss, Milwaukee, and Gary Klug, Caledonia. The bridegrooms attendants were best
man, Don Schulz, Chicago; groomsmen, Russ Krueger, Chicago Jim Boss, Curtiss,
and Steve Slaughter, Chicago.
Attending the bride was maid of honor Jeanne Panorale; bridesmaids, Jeanne Klug,
Patsy Schmid and Muffie Klug.
The bride’s gown was of ivory chiffon, with a tiered scarf skirt ending in a
chapel train with matching cape. Her headpiece was an ivory chiffon turban with
chiffon rose on the side holding the veil. She carried coral roses centered with
a white orchid.
Bridesmaids dresses were of apricot print with an empire spegheth strap dress
with chiffon scarf tiered skirts and matching chiffon capes. They carried coral
gladiolas with blue button mums and baby’s breath.
After a wedding trip to the Virgin Islands and Las Vegas the newlyweds will be
making their home in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, where the bridegroom is employed
by Profit By Air and the bride at Air Wisconsin.,

Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester,
for Mrs. Alta Erlei, a former resident here.
The Rev. James Schaefer officiated and burial was in Dorchester Memorial
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Werner, George Greaser, Jerome Kronschnabl,
Max Kronschnabl, Joe Konecny. Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Erlei died at 12:30 a.m. August 17, 1977 at Parkview Manor Nursing Home,
Green Bay, where she had resided since 1971.
The former Alta Patterson was born December 4, 1895 at Nasonville. She was
married to Henry Erlei on June 13, 1917 at Thorp, and lived in Dorchester from
1924 until 1971. He preceded her in death. She served as Dorchester Village
Librarian for many years. She also operated a photography shop at her home.
She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and of the Rosary Alta Society.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Olson, Green Bay; one son, Leon
Erlei, Green Bay; one brother, Vernon Patterson, Grand Forks, North Dakota; four
sisters, Mrs. Irene Zbalren, Longview, Washington, Mrs. Lyle (Vernie) Sharroh,
Balaton, Minnesota, Mrs. James (June) Pearson, Foreston, Minnesota, and Mrs.
Harold (Florence) Eng, San Diego, California. Two granddaughters also survive.

Cardinal, Janer Marian (8 November 1934 – 17 October 2023)
Janet M. Cardinal, age 88, of Withee, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023,
at her home.
Janet was born on November 8, 1934, the daughter of Wallace and Anna (Madsen)
Wood in the Town of Hixon. She attended Willow Dale School and graduated as the
Salutatorian from Withee High School in 1952. Janet was united in marriage to
Gilbert Cardinal on September 20, 1958. He preceded her in death on March 15,
2016. Together they farmed in the Town of Hixon.
Janet attended the United Methodist Church in Withee and was a member of the
Owen-Withee Vets Club and the Lublin Legion Auxiliary Post #547. She loved to
polka dance and loved her animals and would always take in a stray.
Janet is survived by her two daughters: Cindy Cardinal and Kathy (James Barrett)
Cardinal, both of Withee; three grandchildren: Timothy Day (Amy Flatten) of
Gilman, Angela (Brian) Welsh of Gilman and James (Carlie) Cardinal of Ripon;
five great-grandchildren: Logan, Maya, Naomi & Graham Welsh and James Cardinal;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert and a brother,
William Wood.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023, at
Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Scott Johnson will officiate. Interment
will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Withee. Family and friends are welcome from
9:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Jane Louise TeKampe was born on February 6, 1964, in Marshfield, to William and
Yvonne E. (Thistle) TeKampe. She graduated from Wisconsin Rapids High School in
1982. Jane was united in marriage to Paul E. Pitt.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; two stepdaughters; seven grandchildren;
four sisters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jane was preceded in
death by her parents.
