Engen, Karen (1899? - 24 AUG 1910)
Karen
Engen, the little and only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Helmer Engen, died at the
Northwester Hospital in Minneapolis last Wednesday morning at nine a.m., at the
age of 11 years. She had been suffering the effects of appendicitis since the
last Monday in July, and after three weeks of suffering in the hospital in
Minneapolis, she finally succumbed to the grim hand of death.
She came to
our city (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.) in 1906 with her parents from Norway, and
during her brief school days, Karen's sweet face and winsome ways won the hearts
of both teacher and playmates. Yet, above all came the comforting thought that
the gentle child was spared earth's cares and sorrows, that her memory but forms
a card to draw her loved ones to the brighter home beyond.
The funeral
services were held last Friday and the little body place in the Minneapolis
cemetery for a long sweet rest.
