ROLAND E. BARRETT, 54 BURIED IN WASHINGTON

Rolland E. Barrett, 54 Business Representative for the Grays Harbor District Council of Carpenters, Union, died in an Aberdeen, Washington, hospital after double ulcer surgery.

Me. Barrett, born in Owen, was the eldest of nine children. After attending Owen High School, Rolland went to college in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He then returned to manage the family farm in Wisconsin.

In 1942, Roland enlisted in the U. S. Army and received his paratrooper training in North Carolina. Transfer to the infantry took him to France. There injury in active duty put him in a London hospital for three months, and he then returned to active duty in France.

After separation from the Army, Rolland again returned to farming for a few years. His experience there led him into farm machine and fertilizer sales work in Wisconsin and Illinois.

In 1955 Rolland went to Washington State to work as a carpenter on the Weyerhouser project.

For the last year he has been Business Representative, Grays Harbor District, Council of Carpenters.

An avid reader all his life, Rolland may well be called a self-educated man with wide abilities and interests.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 021, the Hoquiam Eagles Lodge, theCarpenters and Joiners Union, Local 311, and the Democratic Charter Club.

He is survived by his wife, Estelle, and two children; his mother, Mrs. Lola Barrett, one brother, James Barrett, Owen; sisters, Mrs. Ted (Iris) Whitbeck, Fairbanks, Alaska, Mrs. Clarence (Opal) Gustofson, Wausau, Mrs. Carl 9Juanita) Pedersen, Loyal, Mrs. Emil (Mary) Luchterland, Unity, Mrs. Vernon (Beatrice) Hansen, Withee, Mrs. Ted (Barbara) Acker, Medford. He was preceded in death by his father, J. B. Barrett, lost over Germany in 1943.

Last rites for Rolland E. Barrett were conducted at 11:00 o’clock Saturday morning, October 10, from the Elderling Chapel. Rev. Milton Gire officiated.

Active pallbearers were Lynn Daneker, Marvin Gunther, Robert Hall,, Hyalmer Klock, Svere Kvern and Moe Petite. Honary bearers, Joel Brown, Richard Butarac, Dorman Eagers, John Hughs, Edwin Nuttall and glen Smethers,

Military honors were accorded at the graveside in Fern Hill Cemetery. Those attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Theadore Whitbeck, Fairbanks, Alaska, Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Ackers, Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gustofson, Wausau, Mrs. Mike Milewski, Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Maki, Longview, Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hammerlin, Tocoma, Washington.
