Bates, Lois V. (24 May 1915 - 3
July 2013)
Lois V. Bates, 98, of Merrillan passed away, Wednesday, July
3, 2013, at Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls. She was born May 24, 1915,
in Dells Dam, Clark County, to Anson and Esther (Anderson) Green. She was raised
in Dells Dam before moving to Neillsville. Lois was united in marriage to Vance
Bates Oct. 12, 1938. Together they lived at Merrillan.
Lois worked for
the Merrillan Grade School as a cook for over 23 years. She also did some
housework for different people in the community and worked as a waitress for
Campbell Coffee Shop of Merrillan. She enjoyed canning, playing cards, doing
circle the word, baking and cooking.
Lois is survived by her daughters,
Virginia Bates-Johnson and Betty Murphy, both of Merrillan; a son Vance (Judy)
Bates, Jr. of Merrillan; 28 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many
nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Vance in 1989; children, Janet, Joan and William; grandchildren, Lisa
Johnson and Steven and Jeff Bates; parents, Anson and Esther; brothers, Willard,
Lawrence, Raymond and infant brother Hugh.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Merrillan United Methodist Church,
Merrillan. Reverend Meg Erickson officiated. Burial followed in Oakwood
Cemetery, Merrillan. Family and friends were invited for visitation Tuesday from
11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Funeral Home of Hixton assisted the family with arrangements.
