The following area students were named to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls spring semester dean’s list, having received a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.

Abbotsford - Jennifer Brooks, biology major; Chili - Ellen Stichert, Agricultural studies; Colby - Terese Kay, dairy science; Dorchester - Nicolette Broeske, crops and soil science; Derek Johnson, conservation; Christine Leiby, agricultural business; Granton - Kent Genteman, business administration; Loyal - Samantha Weyer, horticulture; Neillsville - Emily Lavalley, dairy science; Owen - Rebecca Bauer, agricultural studies, Jenessa Freidhof, agricultural business; Thorp - Miranda Czubakowski, elementary education; Withee - Kimberly Benzschawel, chemistry; Lindsey Lindgren, psychology.

The following local students were among the May graduates of Crown College, located just west of Minneapolis.

Maranatha Elmhorst, Neillsville, earned a degree in music, graduating Magna Cum Laude (GPA of 3.7 to 3.89); Vincent Elmhorst, Neillsville, earned a degree in communication, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Joanna Johnson, Chili, earned a degree in music, graduating Summa Cum Laude (GPA 3.9 to 4.0).

The following Neillsville students have been named to the spring 2013 dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (Minimum 3.5 GPA).

Jennifer Glaze, music: performance emphasis; Anthony Heil, recreation management; Dessa Karl, history education; Nicole Reinhardt, community health education; Mallori Sydorowicz, therapeutic recreation.

The following Neillsville students were among the 2013 spring graduates of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Ben J. Conner - Bachelor’s of Science (BS), accounting, business administration, political science; Scott M. Simpson - BS, web and digital media development.

The following area students have received distinction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the spring semester of the 2012-2013 academic years.

Neillsville - Sheila Opelt, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, dean’s list; Lauren Reinhardt, School of Human Ecology, dean’s honor list; Daniel Schoen, School of Education, dean’s list; and Katrina Strobush, College of Engineering, dean’s honor list. Owen - Jeremiah Kakes, College of Letters and Science, dean’s list.

The following area students were named to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire dean’s list for the 2013 spring semester.

Merrillan - Jacob Hagglund, business; Neillsville - Jared Boucher, arts and sciences; Alyssa Griepentrog, nursing and health sciences; Jacob Hagglund, business; Olivia Hamm, arts and sciences; Kaitlynn Heil, education and human sciences; Kayla Opelt, education and human sciences; Kelly Opelt, nursing and health sciences; Amanda Pickett, education and human sciences; Lacey Struensee, arts and sciences; and Samantha Wilson, business; Owen - Anna Nosko, education and human sciences.

The following area University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point undergraduates were honored for attaining high grade-point averages during the spring semester of the 2012-2013 academic years.

Merrillan - Laura K. Wright, highest honors (3.9 - 4.0 GPA); Neillsville - Elizabeth M. Greeler, honors (3.50-3.74 GPA), MaryAnne Hinkle, high honors (3.75 to 3.89 GPA); Owen - Efren M. RiosTodakee, high honors.

The following area students have been named to the spring dean’s list (minimum 3.5 GPA) of Winona State University, Winona, MN.

Neillsville - Caitlin Courtney, Nicholas Neville, Samantha Pfeiffer, and Samantha Thoma; Owen - Brittany Bredlau, Kirsten Shakal and Kylie Shakal

Samantha Thoma, of Neillsville, was among the spring 2013 graduates of Winona State University, Winona, MN. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science (BS) in nursing.

Tierney McBride, daughter of James and Heidi McBride, Loyal, was awarded a Bachelor’s of Arts (BA) degree in biology June 9 from Lawrence University, Appleton. She is a 2009 graduate of Loyal High School.
