Gray, Walter (29 Jan 1876-10 Sept 1964)

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Loyal Methodist Church for Walter Gray, 88, who died Thursday, September10, at 1 a.m. at the Clark County Hospital .Mr. Gray had been a patient there for the past three months.

Rev. Paul Doering was the officiating clergyman at the services. Myre Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Paul Doering, accompanied by Mrs. Bryon Zepplin, sang the hymns “Jesus Saves,” and “He Lifted Me.”

Masonic rites were held at the Myre Funeral Home Fridayevening at 8 p.m.

Pallbearers were Herbert White, Robert Prior, Glen Doering, Neil Johnston, Roy Thomas and Jesse Raab. Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery.

Mr. Gray was born January 29, 1876 at Liberty Pole, Wisconsin in Vernon County. He was married on March 21, 1897 to Ella Halverson in Vernon County. The couple farmed in Vernon County until 1921, and then moved to Greenwood, where he farmed for five years. In 1926 they moved to Loyal where he was employed as janitor in the Loyal Public Schools, the O&N Lumber Company Co., and was sexton of the Loyal Cemetery.

Mr. Gray was a member of the Loyal Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 325.

He is survived by three daughters Mrs. Art (Mabel) Reineking, Watertown; Mrs. Kenneth (Edith) Stafford, Slinger; and Mrs. William (Helen) Young, Tomah; and by two sons, Alfred of Loyal; and Rodger of Reedstown; also by one sister, Mrs. Gretel Reageles, LaCrosse; and one brother, Henry Gray of Calimesea, California. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.

Beside his wife who preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 1955, he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Cassie, and one brother.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Roger Gray, Reedstown; Mrs. Arthur Reineking, Watertown; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stafford, Slinger; Mr. and Mrs. William Young, Tomah; Mrs. Gretel Reageles and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Reageles, LaCrosse; Mrs. Clarence Aspenson, Viroqua; Harold Reineking, and Nrs. Robert Nardness, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Stafford and family, Neenah. Mrs. Dale Huntington and Mrs. Barbara Davidson, Genoa; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sturtz Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hagen, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Miller and family, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gray and Gayle, West Allis; Miss Geraldine Gray, St. Paul Park, Minnesota; and Mrs. Lavern Johnson, Wisconsin Rapids. Also many friends and neighbors from the Loyal and Greenwood area attended.
