Giles B. Susa Sr. 88,
Greenwood, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s
Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 1,
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Brial
followed inmSt. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandchildren,
Caleb Susa, Cole Suysa, Joshua Braun, Benjamin Susa, Joshua Susa and Katie
Sladich.
Giles Bernard Susa was born on April 23, 1925, in Greenwood, the
son of John and Dora (nee Bautch) Susa. He was raised on the family farm wst of
Greenwood and received his education in the Greenwood area, graduating from
Greenwood High School in 1943. After high school, Giles worked on his father’s
farm and also began working at Roddis Manufacturing in Marshfield. He married
Marie C. Hofman on Sept. 28, 1946, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield.
They farmed west of Greenwood until 1954, when they bought a farm south of
Greenwood, in the town of Eaton. Living with them since the age of 14 and
helping with daily operations of the farm was his brother-in-law, Alois “Butz”
Hoffman, now deceased. Giles also began driving school bus in the spring of
1954. He drove school bus for 41 years, hauled milk for Mike Briski to Schlinsog
Dairy and built Nuway Milk Houses. His wife, Marie died on May 25, 1997. He sold
the farm to his son, Rocky in 1999. Giles married Shirley (Johnson) Susa on
Sept. 21, 2002, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. He was a member of
St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, served as the town of
Eaton assessor for many years, was a founding member of the
Greenwood-Willard-Rock Dam snowmobile club and was secretary for the Greenwood
branch of Catholic Family Life Insurance. He had many interests, but especially
loved hunting, fishing, going to the cabin, making sauerkraut, making maple
syrup, snowmobiling, bowling, traveling to Arizona, and his walks.
He
will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley, Greenwood; his children, Michael
(Kristen) Susa, Pacific, Mo., Gerald (Yvonne) Susa, Greenwood, Lee (Mary) Susa,
Wisconsin Rapids, Giles Jr. (Linda) Susa, Greenwood, Richard Susa, Greenwood,
Catherine Susa, Hallsville, Mo, William (Sandra) Susa, Ypsilanti, N.D., Jane
(David) Braun, Greenwood, Daniel (Tammy) Susa, Greenwood,Tinothy Susa,
Greenwood, and Patrick (Lisa) Susa, Greenwood; three step children, Kay
(Charlie) Klock, Red Wing, Minn, Diane (Monte) Hoppa, Neillsville, and Paul
“Howie” Susa, Willard; 28 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; six
step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Irene Susa,
Greenwood; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; one grandson, Peter William
Susa in 1983; one great-granddaughter, Hayleigh Sue Ponder, 2011; and three
brothers, John Susa Jr., Clitus Susa, and James Susa.
The family wishes

for all the loving care they gave dad during his brief stay,
