FORMER OWEN RESIDENT RETURNED FOR
BURIAL
Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon for a former Owen
resident whose remains were returned here for burial.
Fred Wood, a World
War I veteran passed away Friday, December 25, at the Veteran’s Hospital at
Tomah where he had been a patient for many years.
Funeral services were
held at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon from the Hoeper and Kraut funeral Home
with Rev. Robert Goessling officiating. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were C. E. Beck, Rolland Haire, James Devine, John Bacon, Julius
Johnson and H. M. Wollum.
Fred D. Wood was born July 11, 1893, at
Augusta, Wisconsin. He served in World War I with an infantry company from May
27, 1918, until July 16, 1919. He then came to this community farming south of
the city from 1920 until 1936.
Survivors include a brother, William Wood,
Shawano, and a sister, Mrs. Mort (Dolly) Nichols, Green Bay.
