Douglas T. O'Donnell,
86, Marshfield, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Ministry St. Joseph's
Palliative Care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on
Friday, July 26, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield with Rev.
Eric Berns officiating. The Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly will form
a guard of honor at the church. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven
Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54
of Marshfield. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00
pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00 am until service time at Our
Lady of Peace Catholic Church. A Knights of Columbus rosary service will be held
on Thursday at 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
Douglas was born on June 28,
1927 in Clark County to Lester and Violet (Madler) O'Donnell and was raised by
his maternal grandparents, Peter and Rose (Schmitz) Madler in the Chili area. He
was a graduate of Granton High School and also attended technical school in
Chicago. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II.
He married Mary E. McKenna on August 22, 1951 at St. Anthony's Catholic
Church, Loyal. She died on July 22, 2006.
Doug began working as an
architectural draftsman in the state of Wisconsin for Gus Krasin Architect and
then worked as Marshfield office manager for Don Hougen Architect. From 1992
until the present owned and operated O'Donnell Engineering Associates. He
mentored many architectural and engineering students and professionals and
taught blue print reading at Mid State Technical College. He designed many
churches including Our Lady of Peace and many movie theaters, C.B.R.F.'s and
commercial buildings. In 1972 he began O'Donnell Locksmithing as a hobby.
Doug was a member of the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799, the
Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly, the American Legion Post 54 of which
he served as commander, and the 40 et 8. He had served as an alderman in the
fourth ward for the City of Marshfield, the Board of Review in Marshfield, and
the State of Wisconsin Registration Board for Architects and Engineers.
He is survived by 8 children and 5 grandchildren, Patrick of Marshfield, Colleen
of Minocqua, Sharon of Marshfield, Lisa (Elroy) Rogers and their children Andrea
and Emily of Marshall, MN, Michael (Connie) and their children, Elizabeth and
Douglas of O'Fallon, IL, Daniel of Marshfield, Kevin of Palatine, IL, and Shawn
(Stacy) and their son, Cody of Chili. He is also survived by a sister, Mary
Ellen Stevens of Carthage, Texas.
He was predeceased by his parents and
his wife.
In lieu of flowers the family will designate a memorial in
Doug's name at a later date.
