Steffen, Emil (97 April 1878-21 Oct 1964)

Emil Steffen, 86, Colby, route 2 died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, at his home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riplinger. The rev. M. L. Yonker officiated and burial was made in the Hillside cemetery in Marshfield.

Emil Steffen was born April 7, 1878 in Bern Switzerland and came to the United States at the age of 23. He lived in Green County and was married to Lena Hahn November 7, 1914 at Monroe.

They moved to the town of Beaver in Clark County, where they farmed until 13 years ago, when they moved to their present farm.

In addition to his wife he leaves six daughters, Mrs. Henry (Helen) Schuh, Curtiss; Mrs. Charles (Irene) Wittlinger, Amery; Mrs. Jack (Rose) Dumler, Riplinger; Mrs. Walter (Caroline) Boettcher, Stratford; Mrs. Orlo (Iris) Furman, Loyal; and Mrs. James (Allaire) Halkowell,Loyal; two sons, Enil, Milwaukee and Harry, Antioch, Illinois; a sister, Miss Louise Steffen, New York; a brother, Gottlieb, Bern, Switzerland; seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
