Davel, Albert (31 Oct 1874)

Mr. Albert Davel will celebrate his 90th birthday on Sunday, October 31.

Mr. Davel is in fairly good health despite having had eye surgery recently. He is beginning to take walks again occasionally which is a sure sign of returning health. He is and avid baseball fan.

Mr. Davel was born in Germany October 31, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Davel. He attended the Spencer Schools. He lived in Spencer and Loyal, and started the Davel Grocery Store which he sold to his son, Lawrence in June 1947, who now operates the business.

He is a member of St. Anthony‘s Catholic Church and the knights of Columbus, which he joined in 1915, becoming a member of the Fourth Degree Assembly in 1920. He is also affiliated with the Holy Name Society. He served as the Village President of Loyal, also the Village Treasurer, served on the school board for more than forty years, and was fireman for as many years, of which he still is honorary.

He was married on October 8, 1902 to the former Florence Baker of Seymour. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary two years ago at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal; the same church where they were married. The couple have lived in Loyal all their married life.

The Davel’s are parents of 11 children: Lawrence, Loyal; Edward, a civil engineer in Chicago; Paul, executive vice president and cashier of Citizens State Bank of Loyal; Mrs. Fred (Evelyn) Nolan, Minneapolis; Mrs. Scott (Marie) Canny, Algoma; Mrs. Al (Gertrude) Phair, Oshkosh; Miss Margaret Davel, Chicago; Mrs. James(Katheryn) Babb, Long Island, New York; Mrs. Lucian (Madeline) Krawczyk, Pulaski; Mrs. William (Jane) Simpson, Minneapolis and Mts. Al (Dorothy) Schmook, Madison.

They also have 37 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Many happy returns on the 90th birthday of a man who has been so active in his community for so many years!
