------ Reis, Julia (2 FEB 1869 – 15 APR 1965)

Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Reis, 95, of Abbotsford, who died April 15 were held Monday morning at 10:30 at St. Bernard’s Catholic church.  The Rev. Raymond B. Schulz officiated at the mass of requiem after which interment was made in St. John the Baptist cemetery, Wuerzburg.

Pallbearers were Joseph Calmes, Peter Calmes, Sylvester Ellenbecker, John Kremsreiter and Nick Schumacher.

The former Julia Kochan was born Feb. 2, 1869, at Reefs Mills, Wis., and was married there Oct 27, 1894, to Joseph Reis.  A year later they moved to an 80 acre piece of wild land in the Wuerzberg area.  A shanty in the yard of a neighbor was their home for six weeks while they were building their own log cabin.  They lived in this until 1926 when they built a new home.  They cleared the land and farmed it.  On Dec. 6, 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Reis moved to Abbotsford and on March 21, 1951, Mr. Reis died.

For the past 14 years Mrs. Reis made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Calmes, at Abbotsford where her death occurred Thursday afternoon after an illness of about two months.

She was a member of the St. John’s Alter Society at Wuerzburg and an honorary member of the St. Bernard’s Alter Society at Abbotsford.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. George (Martha) Calmes of Abbotsford, a son, Erwin, of Marshfield, and a grand son, Francis Seubert of Dorchester, the foster son of Mr. and Mrs. Calmes.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Relatives and friends from away who came for the funeral and the general rosary service held at the Polnaszek Funeral Home Sunday evening were from Marshfield, Two Rivers, Whitelaw, Manatowoc, Green Bay, Pulaski, Wausau, Athens, Edgar, Milan, Dorchester and Colby.
