Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Reis, 95, of Abbotsford,
who died April 15 were held Monday morning at 10:30 at St. Bernard’s Catholic
church. The Rev. Raymond B. Schulz
officiated at the mass of requiem after which interment was made in St. John the
Baptist cemetery, Wuerzburg.
Pallbearers were Joseph Calmes, Peter Calmes, Sylvester
Ellenbecker, John Kremsreiter and Nick Schumacher.
The former Julia Kochan was born Feb. 2, 1869, at Reefs
Mills, Wis., and was married there Oct 27, 1894, to Joseph Reis.
A year later they moved to an 80 acre piece of wild land in the Wuerzberg
area. A shanty in the yard of a
neighbor was their home for six weeks while they were building their own log
cabin. They lived in this until 1926
when they built a new home. They
cleared the land and farmed it. On
Dec. 6, 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Reis moved to Abbotsford and on March 21, 1951, Mr.
Reis died.
For the past 14 years Mrs. Reis made her home with her
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Calmes, at Abbotsford where her
death occurred Thursday afternoon after an illness of about two months.
She was a member of the St. John’s Alter Society at
Wuerzburg and an honorary member of the St. Bernard’s Alter Society at
Abbotsford.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. George (Martha)
Calmes of Abbotsford, a son, Erwin, of Marshfield, and a grand son, Francis
Seubert of Dorchester, the foster son of Mr. and Mrs. Calmes.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two
sisters.
Relatives and friends from away who came for the funeral
and the general rosary service held at the Polnaszek Funeral Home Sunday evening
were from Marshfield, Two Rivers, Whitelaw, Manatowoc, Green Bay, Pulaski,
Wausau, Athens, Edgar, Milan, Dorchester and Colby.
