Holmes, Caroline (MAR 1822 - 7
AUG 1909)
Granton lost one of its oldest and most highly esteemed
residents last week Saturday morning in the death of Mrs. Caroline Holmes at the
advanced age of 87 years. Death was the result of old age and general decline,
and had been expected for several weeks past.
Deceased was born in the
state of New York in March 1822, and in early womanhood she was married to Henry
Holmes in Albany, N.Y>, where she resided with him up to about forty years ago,
when she was left a widow. From this union four children were born, two of whom
passed away long since, one daughter, Mrs. C.W. Chubb, and one son, H.B. Holmes,
at whose home she had lived the past fifteen years, and where she died, being
left to survive her.
The funeral was held last week Sunday afternoon at
three o'clock from the home by Rev. Burrows of the Neillsville M.E. Church, who
delivered a most worthy befitting sermon.
