Johnston, Mrs.
William (Rowena) (24 JUN 1848 – 28 JAN 1916)
Mrs. Wm. Johnston died at
her home west of this city on Friday, Jan. 28th, of paralysis. She was born
Rowena Baxter in Quebec, Canada, on June 24, 1848. She was married to Wm.
Johnston on Feb. 4, 1873 and they became residents of this county many years
ago. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Sam of Loyal,
George of Circle, Mont., and Gladys, who lives at home. She is also survived by
two sisters, Mrs. H.J. Kemp of Toronto and Mrs. Wm. Hughes of Marlow, Canada.
Also by one brother, Grant Baxter, of Hillsboro, N.D.
Mrs. Johnston has
been a resident of Clark County since 1873, and during that time demonstrated
herself a woman of many unusual qualities and one whose kindly and charitable
inclinations were foremost during her daily life. As a result she was held in
high esteem by the entire neighborhood and all who knew her. The funeral was
held Monday at the house, Rev. Pinney officiating and interment was made in the
Neillsville Cemetery.
