Lena Martha Kuester, 93, Greenwood, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997 at St. Joseph’s
Hospice Care Unit, Marshfield.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Immanuel Church of Christ,
Greenwood. Rev. Michael Kennedy
officiated. Burial was in the church
cemetery. Pall bearers were Mark
Awe, Tom Krall, Russell Awe, Jay LaBonte, Joshua Krall, and DaNeil Humke.
Lena Martha Abel was born on May 21, 1904, in a log house in the town of Eaton.
She was the oldest daughter of John and Clara (nee Decker) Abel.
She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel United Church of Christ and
received her education in the Meinholdt (West Eaton) School.
After her schooling, she worked at the hotel in Greenwood.
She married Norbert Kuester at Immanuel United church of Christ on June
7, 1923. They farmed in the town of
Warner until 1963, and continued to live on the farm.
Her husband died on Jan. 7, 1983.
She continued to live on the farm until her death.
She was a former member of the Westside Ladies Aid and had served many
years as secretary and treasurer.
She was a lifetime member of the Clark County Historical Society and Immanuel
United Church of Christ. She enjoyed
spending time with her family, crocheting, and knitting.
Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Awe, Owen; Violet (Eldore) Humke,
Greenwood; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son; brothers,
Gilbert Abel and Albert Abel; and one sister Hilda Laabs.
Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
